instead of that across my screen I have ''yahoo welcome beta mail'' in large letters! I can't get rid of it. If I go into desktop/properties etc it does not show up, so I can change the image on my desktop but the 'Yahoo' stuff is superimposed over the top. I would welcome any tips!

Hi, Paul tried to email you but can't because 'your email address is not confirmed'??
Anyhow I've tried various of everyone's helpful suggestions. Tried Windows system restore - made no difference.
The words cover the whole screen,
I can ' concertina' them/move the words to one side but there is nothing 'solid' to 'right click 'on!! If there was I could just delete.
Any more ideas?
TX Emily

I can change the desktop but 'Yahoo' still comes out written over the top of whatever I choose. The 'yahoo' is not saved in my desktop images, I've checked them all. So it is something, a web thing, I have saved over the top. Sorry to be so un-savvy!!

2 possibilities...you either saved a graphic from a website as your background or you pasted the graphic onto your desktop.
Can you click and drag it across your desktop? If you can do that, then I'd say you pasted a graphic onto your desktop and all you need to do is right click on the graphic then hit delete.
Otherwise, try going to control panel, display, desktop, background then try selecting another background or none. On the list of backgrounds, a graphic from a website will usually be listed as "internet explorer background". Each new website image that is copied in this way will replace the previously saved "internet explorer background".
Okay, here's a 3rd possibility. You saved an active webpage on your desktop. Try this...Right click, properties, desktop, customize desktop, web, uncheck any web pages that may be selected in the box.

Simple, if U want to follow my advice. Just boot in safe mode and Restore Your System to a previous checkpoint No worries, no hassles. I cud've given U a specific solution, but I don't know the problem specifiacally, but doing the restore will definitely help U.

that sounds crazy, just delete the picture form the computer. if not saved then that is a future lesson save it first then you can edit it and delete it. not the worst thing in the world, just keep setting your desktop background as other pics to get rid of it. good luck, sorry i could not help more.
