My parents are from Mexico and they came here illegaly (based on US law I guess). I was born here, and that means I've been thru typical American schooling, employment, experiences, travel, etc. Anyway, it seems immigrant-bashing on this site seems to target Mexicans. Here's my thoughts:

1. If so many Americans are against immigration, why do they continue to employ immigrants?
2. Why persecute immigrants who take jobs that many natives in this country won't?
3. Are all origins of immigration wrong, regardless of what immigrants or their children accomplish? Atty Gen Alberto Gonzales' parents were immigrants, and he holds one of the highest offices in the US. Is his presence in the US just as wrong as that dude who cooks up your food at your fav restaurant?
4. If you're an imm-basher, what's your take on the opinions of some Mexicans who feel the US invaded/acquired the Southwest unjustly?
5. Go back a few generations & lemme know if you're a pure-blooded American.
Thanks!

1. Any immigrant employed has to be legal to work in this country. However, a lot of farms will hire illegal immigrants because they are cheaper labor for a hard days work. Although I've noticed that they are switching to school kids and pay them by the barrel, bussell, etc.
2. Some of the time people think they are too good for a job, but get angry because immigrants are taking those potential jobs away. It's a double standard that we will never get away from.
3. In a way we are all children of immigrants. America was founded on immigration, and it is something we should embrace. Mr. Gonzales worked hard to get where he is at, nobody can take that away because of his descent.
4. I'm not an immigrant basher, but the acquisition of the Southwest was a long time ago when land was more important than money, and people would kill for it. It's a page in history that can't be changed.
5. I am 100% American. Regardless of my family tree I wave my flag proudly. I love my country and wouldn't consider leaving. I may not like the politics or the politicians, but America is my home and my country. I don't define myself by where the generations of my past lived, but by where my heart and home are.

I don't have a problem with immigration. The problem I have is why is it so hard to make the effort to come here legally? There are other immigrants besides Mexicans who go through the process and work hard to become sworn in as U.S. citizens. I think that there could be changes to make immigration more effective, but it comes down to this, if America just says okay you can break our laws to get here, disregard our immigration process, not pay taxes, and we won't do anything but let you it makes a joke of the other immigrants who actually try to become U.S. citizens.

I think of this, America is the land of opportunity and we were founded by immigrants. We ask to be given "the poor and huddled masses", but there is also a process now to become a citizen and enjoy the freedom and opportunity of America. There is a diverse culture here, and that is what makes us great, but if there were no laws to follow it would be pure chaos. Immigration isn't bad, there are people who would have died in refugee camps in Africa if we didn't allow immigration and help them become citizens. Why is it so hard to make the effort to do it the legal way?

Okay, this is getting long. Your question was thought provoking and I could go on all night. I don't think immigrant bashing is right and I know a lot of people do it because they are ignorant and racist. That is something that will never change no matter how hard we try. Just think of immigration as a whole, not just so narrow. It's focus has been too singular lately, but there are other than Mexican immigrants coming to America, the only difference is that they made the effort to become citizens, they didn't just demand that we make them one.

1- Americans are against illegal immigration because it mess with the economy

2- minimum wage is affect when immigrants get hired illegally because so many will work for so much less that it makes the employers not willing to hire people they would have to pay a "just" wage too. So min wage drops to so little that employers are basically working the natives like slaves pay... look at the states next to Mexico most of their minim wages are below national average.

3. No! their is no wrong form of legal immigration after all since the immigrant is coming to a new country for the government, it should abide by their rules... what kind of government wants someone to enter the country and all ready be breaking the law?
not a first world country.

4. US won the war when you win the loser can say whatever they want it doesn't cost them a cent... and they only want it back because they don't have it. ha-ha losers

5. I don't need to... a pure blood American is one who was born in the nation.

4. i don't have a problem with people imigrating, as long as they are coming here legally.
