She is 10 years old and the doctor told us she just has little cuts on the outside of her rectum(fishers), and to give her a lot of apple juice. But she's still in pain every time. She also has had some bleeding, but I don't think that is a problem anymore. What can I do with her diet, herbs and anything else? Please help! It's been months.

If it has been months and your doctor isn't being helpful, then consult another doctor. Try a specialist in gastroenterology.

I would avoid all OTC and prescription medications as they can cause a dependency and decrease the motility of the bowel, especially later in life.

The word is "fissures" and here is a site to learn more about how others have treated them. http://www.boardsailor.com/jack/af/

I would also suggest she drinks plenty of water, prune juice and avoid caffeine (e.g. soda, etc.). Some people have great results with apples. Apple juice from the store probably has too much sugar and other addictive to be really effective.

Some foods cause constipation so it will be helpful to learn which ones might be contributing to the problem. Bananas are often used for loose stools, so be careful with them for this problem.

Exercise and even just walking regularly will help increase motility. Stomach crunches can sometimes help promote activity.

The bleeding may be from pushing too hard. If so, make sure she learns proper hygiene in that area to avoid infection. Make sure she also ALWAYS wipes front to back.

All the best.

She needs to be taking a stool softener. There are so many things on the market to help. Start trying some out. A soft bowl movement will not cause pain. She could have hemroids from being constipated, no matter how young she is. She may have a spastic colon, which can cause painful cramping. Have her checked out.
