I need a cheap ion exchange membrane for my chemical experience

Thin layer of clay can work as ion exchange membrane. If you want membrane with high CEC (cation exchange capacity) you can use vermiculite as the base material. If you want membrane with high AEC (anion exchange capacity) you can use kaolinite (ceramics) as the base material.

easy way is to buy it but if you can get stuff pure enough clay might work
