When a cell of any sort is placed in a solution with a higher osmolarity (concentration of solutes) than is found inside the cell, water will leave the cell by osmosis and shrink. When this happens in a plant cell, the plasma membrane retracts from the cell wall, and is called plasmolysis. Deplasmolysis results from the reversal of plasmolysis by moving the cell back to a solution with a lower concentration of solutes. Osmosis reverses direction and water moves back into the cell
