A hard drive fan is an elite accessory mostly to gaming nerds.

Scenarios:

1. When you are running a standard hard drive in a standard PC, it's not something to worry about or even consider. Cooler hard drives usually have longer lifespans, but in this scenario, it's not going to be that much cooler than it would be without it.

2. If you had multiple hard drives in a RAID array that are going to be left on for extended periods of time, then it's time to take a look at this option.

3. You would definitely want to consider getting one if you are using 10,000 RPM SCSI or SATA drives, such as the WD Raptor.

I do have 1 but that's mainly because my PC usually works at 30C in the summer. It depends on how high the temp in your PC case is. I have about 34-36C so I use 2 case fans and 1 HDD fan. You should see if your HDD is hot when it's running. If it is I suggest you buy a fan, it's very cheap and silent and go for an aerodynamic shape model in case u use a front case fan.

never heard of that. Most computers have a case fan. Normally only need one fan on the case, witch comes with the case. The HD itself never has a fan that i have ever seen.

to buy the fan it's depends you computer inside able to released the heat faster or not. When you upgrade you computer therefore the power or voltage that the component they have use will increase because in physics if more current or voltage it use directly the heat produce will also increase. If you think your CPU feel very hot when you touch it then you can put it if not I think you also can put it just help the temperature in CPU more cooler and not easy damaged.

Nope..unless ur H/D fan isn't working. If you are upgrading an old PC with a new motherboard aswell, you may have to change the H/D fan aswell...case to case basically

No. You can, it won't hurt. But it's not necessary as long as your computer is adequately ventilated by the system fan.

No. System fans cool it just fine, and even those aren't absolutely necessary.
