it is almost 6.5 million. it was much lower in 1980. maybe 4.4 billion or something..

population is going at a rate which will suprass the food and space available on earth.

Many scientists have predicted this and it is a major concern.

There are many different types of popualtion growth in different parts of the world. some developing nations are slowly lowring their pop. rate. developed nations are dropping. but 3rd world countries keep growing. there are many reasons. and other things that will go wrong with over population.

this just means . we need to slow down. some conservative estimates are that population will peak off at 9-10 billion.

others say 12 billion.

just depends how we control it today

Some things I learned in sociology class:

Pessemists believe in the "Malthusian catastrophe," that the world populatoin will grow to fast and their will not be enough food. However, optimists point out that food production rates are growing even faster than the world population. There are problems with food distribution though.

Another interesting fact, while the US debates abortion, in China (the largest populated country) not only is aborion accepted, it is required by law! Couples are only allowed one child because of the over-population. This has had the unforseen result of a surplus in the male population of China.
