so this person that i thought to be "special" had made a questionable statement......that being "how can a person that's so poetic be so heartless." .....could it be that it comes off that way because the emotions that are held deep within are too strong for certain people to feel?.....or are they just ignorant to see what feelings may be involved? is it possible to be on a level of emotions that no one else can feel?

poetry can be genuine flowing from the heart, straight pure and true. or it can be silver-tongued, deceiving, and conniving. simply because someone uses the language and the feelings (your feelings?) so well doesn't necessarily mean that they have your emotions or best interests in mind.

the popular notion of a poet as someone who perches on a rock in a pretty place and makes beautiful observations about the human condition is appealing, but some might use that forum for other reasons.

emotions are deeply held, and some cannot bear to share them, whether it's because they are too deeply held to be perceived or simply too personal should be a decision best left up to the individual(s) involved. if only one person is experiencing an emotion, can they still be called emotional?

good question...

circumstance, environment, and timing, reflect the emotional reaction to that present state of mind. CAUSE and EFFECT. remember there is a reason or an answer for all reaction. Poetic Justice so to speak. a person that shows their true colors may be harsh cold or even relentlessly evil, but know this, most wisdom transpires through the experiences in life. what's the difference between a fool and a wise man? none, one just learns from their mistakes. Some never, but all people can change. The right place and time, who knows. But if you rely on emotions for judgment, you can easily be fooled by your own misconception and strangely enough poetry like beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It's like stubbing your toe, your the only one who actually feels it, but it's the degree of the injury that sustains the level of emotion displayed. So what level of emotion are you on?

Being poetic doesn't mean a person has a heart.

Some poets are so devoted to their art they ignore, or worse, abuse those who love them.

Other assume that because they are 'artsy', they must be deep, and caring, and as a result fail to develop the faculty of actual human interaction.

Many poems reveal a level of deep introspection in the poet, revealing, perhaps, a universal truth, but also revealing the narcissistic nature of the poet as well.

If this comment was aimed at you, perhaps the proper response is not (as you appear to have done) revoke said persons "special" status, but instead take the opinion of this special person, and use it as a chance to examine your own self.

After all, the unexamined life is not a life worth living.

i believe that the people who express themselves via art, are sometimes too shy to express their feelings straight. actually thats art for me, showing emotions in another way. if that particular person experiences strong emotions but cant get them out, it is reasonable to look heartless but its not because he/she really is. its only because these people cant manage their character and freely show things. i dont believe in another emotion level though, i think its just impotence and low self-esteem.

We all fall down, it's being human. I hope you can forgive them, they perhaps don't even know your upset. I'm sure that I've made some folk upset in my life and I hope they've let it go, I have. Best of luck and take care.

Because being a poet and being hearty are not necessarily connected with one another as having extension and having colour are.

Only you know your emotions. Others do not know what we think and do not know what we go through emotionally. It is up to us to communicate our thoughts and emotions - honestly or dishonestly...
This can save our sanity sometimes and destroy relationships at other times...
