because 2=1,
thus 2+2 = 2+1 = 3

proof that 2 = 1
let a = b
add a to each side, then
2a = a + b
multiply each side by (a-b), then
2a(a - b) = (a + b)(a - b)
this simplifies
2a^2 - 2ab = a^2 - b^2
sice a = b, substitute b in for the second a on the left had side
2a^2 - 2b^2 = a^2 - b^2
factor out the 2 on the left
2(a^2 - b^2) = a^2 - b^2
divide by (a^2 - b^2)
2 = 1
