there have been a few rail issues in the past few years both on cta & metra...but that is expected and considering the hundreds of train that ride the rails everyday 24 hours a day, i think the safety record is quite good! i'm sure the same thing can be heard on the local news of every city that has trains.

Because Chicago has a lot of train service and a lot of different services. Derailments could happen (and not "always", and which trains derail every week?). Why don´t you ask why cars are crashing?

There was one yesterday. When was the last one? Where do you get the idea that subway trains are always derailing? I mean, it's not my favorite mode of transportation, but it's pretty reliable. Unlike the buses.

I think the one that happened yesterday was the first in like a really long time--I live here and do not remember one for the last 10 years or so??
