Chlorine and related compounds disrupt many biotic chemical processes because of the high binding affinity of chlorine with many organic molecules.

In other words, it kills things.

Chlorine gasoline is poisonous even as breathed in because like different hazourdous gases it irratates the lungs, and lungs do not run of Chlorine gasoline. notwithstanding in a swimming pool, if the concentration is nice not a lot damage is executed to the human body because the chlorine gasoline is already diluted.

chlorine is a very strong chemical...which in science is known to be very electronegative.. hence water is made up of h2o...the oxygen in the water molecule (h2o) is known to many chemists to be electonegative,,,,however when the chlorine (Cl-) is introduced into the water the oxygen attached to the hydrogen is displaced..together with a hydrogen aton...thereby forming hydroxide ions...(OH-)...leaving room for the chlorine atoms to bond to the hydrogen...which now forms HCL...this is hydrochloric acid...and an acid is used to dispose of bacteria...s algae within the water or bacteria...eg (euglenas) can then be destroyed...one must also remember that chlorine cannot be placed into the water by itself...but in a concentrated form..so as to avoid buring of the eyes and skin...this is the use of chlorine...hence you don't have to get a pool boy to swm to the bottom and scrape the ground...lol!

Chlorine is the broad specturm germicide. It can be easily dissolved in water. Handling is very easy. It will not give any sediments in the swimming pool. This can be removed easily by oxidising water with churning machines.

Chlorine compounds are powerfull oxidizers. Organic matter encountered in swimming pools and spas (bacteria) have little natural defense against such strong oxidents.
