just downloaded a few hours ago. Am constantly getting the message that the connection has timed out so I TRY AGAIN. This is as annoying as Internet Explorers PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED that popped up all the time. How to I tweak my stuff so that everything doesnt take so long? My web pages take around thirty seconds to a minute to load. I have a toshiba laptop with verizon wireless connection. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

after all ive heard, it seems that firefox is bogging down my computer. I downloaded it because everyone said IE sucks, but now, i think it may have been better and faster. every page in q and a times out with firefox and takes an additional one or two minutes to load. I mean, simple stuff, like clicking on a catgegory times out and has to reload when i hit try again.

that sounds much more like a connection problem than a browser problem.
IE is an absolute nightmare, especially to develop for, why they can't bring themselves to make a browser that is compliant to web standards is beyond me. firefox while not perfect is much better and at least doesn't require hacks and work arounds to design for...everyone should be switching from IE to anything else if for no other reason than to try to force microsoft to become compliant and stop trying to more or less hijack the internet.
as for your connection, try stripping it down to only the basics. this means if you are using wireless, plug directly in with an ethernet cable, make sure you free of viruses and spyware, you may even want to detach external devices such as firewire or usb harddrives, clear out the caches and give it a good old restart and see what happens.
if you are familiar with dos/command line you try doing some ping tests to ip addresses and see if those are coming back ok, if they are its something possibly on your isp's end with their dns lookup.
i'm almost willing to bet that right now pings and trace routes will be timing out on you, which would point to it being a connection problem over a browser one.

I've been having troubles with yahoo, it been slow. Try other sites. See if they work . Try your interenet explorer on the site you are trying now, see if it works. If they both don't work it maybe that you don't have a connection at this time.
Also try not having too many tabbs out. Even though FireFox is great it can generate memory leaks. What memory leak is that the FireFox consumes your system memory w/o ever releasing it or giving it back, so everything slows down. What you can do is close firefox completely even the downloaded files window. Then open FireFox again, it should work then.
Thats All the suggestions I have, good luck.
Also some of the movies that might use windows media player, may not open in firefox since those sites are designed for Windows.
So again:
Try a different site.
Try shutting Down FireFox and opening it again
Try not to have too many tabbs open at the same time.
Good Luck

Firefox is an internet browser (like internet Explorer). Thunderbird is Mozilla's e mail client software (like Outlook tutor). till IE7 got here alongside I always used Firefox in determination to internet Explorer because it became a lot less weak to mistakes, freezing, and assorted different issues, and maximum seriously it had the ability to open distinctive tabbed web pages in a unmarried window. Now IE7 has stuck up and has tabbed surfing. It also seems to artwork properly in a great number of different respects, so i'm now utilising it, yet have saved Firefox on my equipment as a "backup". Thunderbird is an effective e mail software, with one exception - it became unreliable re pictures embedded contained in the textual content. it is a few time considering I used is, so updates may have solved that problem.

Yeah, it's not because of FF; I've been using it for 6, 7 months now without facing any problems at all. Did you try the same link using IE & it didn't have any problems? I think at the time maybe the server of the page you wanted to view was down, or your connection was poor. Opera is a fast browser, you can try that one aswell.

This doesn't have to do anything with the browsers. (However, since u've got Zirefox now, I suggest you don't go back to Internet Explorer again.... Mozilla is good). You will have to check your internet connection. May be your wireless connection is weak.

It sounds like you have problems with the network and not the browser. It might even be your network settings, but I'd blame the connection first. Contact verizon's people and see what they can do for you for free first.

Firefox is overated and way over-hyped. Slower then IE also. Have a look here:

For a really fast browser, you could try Opera:

Good luck.
