He eats 3 meals a day and really enjoys his solids. But when it comes to taking his milk formula, he purses his lips and pushes the bottle away, or simply bites the nipple and refuses to drink. We have to sneak it into his food or feed him a bottle when he is asleep. He is a healthy weight and size, but it's exhausting feeding him this way! What should I do? How many ounces is normal for his age? Can I stop giving him milk and just concentrate on solids?

No, he's not teething; no - he won't take his formula out of a bottle, sippy cup or any cup; and no - he is not a regular/cow's milk.

My son did the very same thing at that age. Except I was breastfeeding. The dr. said some kids ween themselves from bottles because they are getting all they need from regular food. No need to worry, just keep feeding him solids. My son is 9 now and skiping two months of formula is not going to kill him. But do wait until he has had his first birthday to start him on cows milk.

Forget the milk and just put him on foods and drinks (milk) from a cup. Lucky you if he doesn't want his bottle. Have you tried giving him formula in a cup. if it doesn't work taking him off formula now would not do much harm but do give him whole milk (red cap). I would not force feed him a bottle while he is sleeping you may do more harm then good.

Ugggh, I don't blame him, formula is so awful.

I never gave my kids that stuff. I weaned them off my milk straight onto whole cow's milk at seven months and they were just fine.

Doctors have a deal with the formula companies to push people to keep using formula as long as possible and therefore making sure kids need to come to the doctor more often.... keeping both of them in business.

And don't fall for the soy hype either, it's not good for anyone to intake the amount of soy that everyone is eating/drinking. Some soy is beneficial for some people, but not everyone... many people are intolerant and it is actually detrimental to their body's ability to absorb nutrients properly.

My kids never go to the doctor for anything besides well-child appointments and never get sicker than having the sniffles in the wintertime.

Please don't force him to drink formula, he's trying to tell you that he is feeling some negative effect from it and he doesn't like it.

Until a year of age, breastfeeding (or formula) is the baby's diet, and everything else is *extra*. If he won't take a bottle, give him a cup of formula. Or give him solids with a lot of formula added. Eliminating the formula before his first birthday could put him at risk for malnutrition.

Look these days doctors say that it is not necessary to force the babies for milk, you can alter the same by giving milk products like porridge, custards, pudding etc., so the milk is taken by the kid in yet other forms. You may try with chocolate mixtures, but in my opinion it is absolutely no harm even if you give these alternates and start giving milk with some flavoured mixtures when the baby crosses 1and half years, I did the same and by god's grace she is fit and fine. So try out!

i have had 3 kids and none of them were on formuls at 10 months. try warm 2% milk with baby rice mixed. the baby is trying to tell you he dont need the formula no matter what the dr say. all kids are different. try also a sippy cup.

try some chocolate syrup in it lol ... if he doesnt want formula then you shouldnt worry too much, just make sure he gets enough vitamins from other foods, and when hes a year, then you start regular whole milk, at 2 he should be on 2 % milk. (mother of 2 girls .. 4yr and 2 yr.

Formula is horrible tasting and is cow's milk is filled with hormones and antibiotics and your child obviously doesn't like it.

Take it as a blessing and give the child some calcium fortified soy milk. It's better for him and if your doctor doesn't agree get a better educated doctor.

Baby formula is so bad for kids. Almost all of them have soy
in them which is REALLy bad for them if you dont believe me
read this book.

The whole soy story : written by Kaayla MD. A doctor wrote it

Please i beg you dont give him anymore, give him whole cows
milk if he wants it but not formula, the vitamins and minerals
in it are synthetic that means he cant even absorb it
well. Plus they put additives and preservatives in it.

I think the reason he wont take it is he knows.
cows milk...and dont give him low fat-give him whole
kids need lots of fat.
