I do not remember George Reeve or John Hyanes Newton but in his day I really liked Christopher Reeve, he looked every inch the super hero.

I loved Dean Cain because he was tall, dark and very gorgeous, he had a sweet and innocent aura around him as Clark Kent (without the bumbling clumsiness that we got with Christopher Reeve) that seemed to go hand in hand with his strong masculine Superman alter ego.

It took a while to warm to Tom Welling because he is so much younger - obviously - but I now think he is great... You can picture him growing up to be Superman as we know him. And his eyes... wow... they are amazing!

Brandon Routh is also cute and very tall but he seems to be going back to the Christopher Reeve days in the looks department. Some of the clips of the film have him looking very geeky which is something Superman had moved away from and then others have him looking fine. I guess we would need to wait to see the film to judge properly.

bj routh is definitely the number one in my list... given that he's fresh and yet so captivating... and he's also the superman of my generation.

my mum used to always tell me that i've watched the christopher reeve versions of the superman movie franchise, but then i was too young to remember all that. i wasn't even walking at that time!

dean cain's next, coz he was a cool dude and i grew up watchin his take as clark on television.

Tom welling as superman was something i dint really fully accepted at first... it took me quite a while to accept him coz there was just something i dint like about him... for me then, he dint suit the role... but then after watching several smallville episodes, i got accustomed to his different take on being the adolescent Superman. So he's third and last on my list.

no competition or comparison needed - christopher reeve is the one and only, god rest his soul, apart from being the best of them all he didn't need a suit with built in muscles to play the part - that was HIM under the suit - unlike those wimps from batman - keaton, kilmer, clooney, etc. BUT dean cain had the fittest sidekick - teri hatcher - oooh yeah (as she was then of course)

I think the actor who best portrayed Superman as we would like him to be was Christopher Reeve. Black hair blue eyes and a square chin what more could you ask?
