Homo sapiens will become homo genius. Homo genius will keep us in open zoos and inform tourists that we had some intelligence but we misused it in the name of race religion and nationality.
Wait for a million years.

Absolutely even if it is a remote possiblity during the next 10-20 millenia - the more possible occurrance would be contact via seti research - through radio telescope contact.

You know I think knowledge that there was another intelligent civilization somewhere out there ( which is quite likely - just hard to make contact with ) probably won't unite the Human Race that much - it would probably take an actual visit from E.T. to solve that enormous problem.

I'm not holding my breath but I like how you think.

we've not advanced 'swifter' than different creatures. by technique of putting forward this you look to intend that intelligence is one way or the different the objective of evolution. yet this isn't authentic - evolution doesn't have a objective. All that occurs is that creatures evolve to detect a gap the position they could live to inform the tale. thousands and thousands of years in the past, our ancestors got here upon the area of interest of 'intelligence', and advanced to take advantage it. different creatures got here upon different niches and take advantage those extremely properly, a minimum of till we grew to change into up and all started destroying their habitats. And, it isn't any longer authentic that there have been not the different creatures that stepped ahead intelligence. it type of feels from the fossil list that about one hundred,000 years in the past there have been distinctive hominid species that were better or a lot less wise. The others died out, and only our ancestors survived. Why? we may be able to only guess, in spite of the indisputable fact that the prospect is that we wiped the competition out.

depends...

but a new "threat" or even a new "fear" or thing to hate wont do us much good in the long run...
;-)
Just think about it...
Think about what racism did to ppl, there's also something called "internalized racism" so I'm pritty sure they'll be all sorts of divisions as usual if we see them as a "threat" "fear" or even "hate" or "idolize" them...

(side note:
The Appearance / Emergence of Another Intelligent Species could mean and be anything... from newly evolved Apes to Genetically Enginered Humans to Aliens ... for all we know is there's already intelligent beings on earth we just haven't notice b/c they don't speak in our laguage LOL and don't act like how we've stareotyped "intelligent beings" to act like... and then there's always the possibility of mutants Hehehe)

Certainly. There is nothing more unifying than a common enemy, and as the human race goes, any new intellegent species would be viewed as a threat.

They definitely wanted to press that vision in that movie 'Independance Day' (which personally I thought sucked because the excessive moral fiber made the people far too 2 dimensional).

Yes, because the lines we draw between ourselves are completely arbitrary, but most people need someone to hate.

Can I have some of what you are smoking?

As long as there is a difference of any type there will be someone to hate you for it. NO MATTER WHAT.

You have a lollipop and they don't so they hate you for it.

That would depend very much on the circumstances. If they were exactly like us, there'd hardly be an advantage. Also, it would depend on why they've come. If they need something, I don't think they'd be all that welcome, would they?
