I am a Software Engineer with a Chip Design Company, and I am looking for a powerful Laptop to replace the desktop I have at home. My main development environment would be Linux and Windows for Word/Excel etc. I had a look at Apple MacBook and HP Pavillion. Both had good features but at a price tag of 70K. I am also thinking if it is a good option to wait till Windows Vista is released. Any further models that I can look for and is waiting for Vista worthwhile?

Take a look at Dell and Gateway. Dell is renown for bargains and service, and Gateway is working hard to overcome their horrendous business practices of a few years ago.

Vista is going to offer next to nothing for users until at least two or three years from now. Why? Because 80% of people will resist buying into it and continue to use XP and expect everything to work, so the benefits of vista will be slowcoming. Vista has also been delayed so many times, nobody really knows when it will even exist at all. And you might remember back to Windows ME (mistake edition, as people un-fondly remember it).

laptop computers can be a rather tricky buy at times, I would suggest that you look out for the cheapest and yet latest desktop on the market,

the best way to do this is on what they call warehouse sale markets some of them are online.

these warehouse owners have a service where they sell laptop computers to normal customers like you and me, however with very reduced prices due to the fact that they do not have as much costs as normal shops do, such as rent and a employees etc. as you know most online shops have rather competitive prices sometimes cutting the laptop price to a half.

one such website for laptop computers is :
