I tend to be a straight acting guy but i've found myself being a little more feminine in my ways lately. Is this just me being more self confident or am I just rebelling against the Bush agenda?

I think anyone who takes the phrase straight acting personal are being overtly dramatic and unfortunately I tend to see this more in the feminine gay males. Most red-blooded americans know the difference between straight acting and femme guys. If you choose to say you don't it just shows ignorance in my opinion.

Y'know what? I'm pretty butch, but the phrase "straight-acting" implies that because I'm gay, I shouldn't be butch. If you identify as gay, and call yourself straight-acting, that's counterproductive. You're essentially saying that there's some big contradictory thing about being both. And language DOES make a difference.
As for why you're turning up the femme; you might feel like you don't need to (over)compensate anymore. It might be more turning down the butch than turning up the femme. Or maybe you're just trying to make breeders uncomfortable?

I think to call it a backlash agains the Bush agenda might be a stretch, but maybe not. If you are feeling a little more need to assert your "gayness" for whatever reason, you might find yourself saying "Girl!" when otherwise you'd have said "Golly gee".
I'll agree with the one guy who gives you a hard time about the term "straight acting." While we know what you mean, I've tried to learn to say "masculine acting" when I am talking about a gay man who is more "butch" in his outward actions. Acting straight would include dating women. LOL.

Funny, cuz I've always thought of myself as straight-acting as well... most people are surprised to hear that I'm gay. I've worried about the same thing- that I'm acting more effeminite. I attributed it to the fact that I work in Theatre, and of course, there are a lot of gay people in this industry... so I thought, maybe I'm picking up behavior patterns from them. But recently, I asked a life-long friend if this is the case, and he reassured me that I am not acting more effeminite. I guess maybe I thought I was because I'm getting more self-conscious about it. Maybe the same is true for you?

To be honest it's all relative to how much you want to be a stereotype. To be straight acting is just that another label society puts on us. However by the same token just because I don't want to go out and buy the whole backlog of Barbara Streisand's discography doesn't mean I don't have a physical and mental attraction to the same sex. People are different and just because they blur the definitions of social grouping doesn't make them any different to anyone else - only more honest.

Straight acting? So you sleep with women? Or are you acting like a straight woman?
If you are gay, and don't know why this is offensive, I am going to have to ask you to turn in your gay union card.
