the throat "seeds" as they are called, come into my mouth about once a month. It almost looks like corn kernals except they smell really bad. It seems like they might be plaque that gets stuck in the cracks of the throat. I never knew what this was called and thought I may be the only person suffering from this. It's really a weird thing. A women's magazine called them seeds. How do I prevent or get rid of these? It's gross!

I've never heard them called throat seeds,in my 20 years of nursing.

Tonsil Stones are irregularly shaped, whitish/yellow, foul-smelling globs of mucous and bacteria that get caught in the back of the throat. They form in the tonsil crypts which are simply small pockets or divots that appear in everyones tonsils. The scientific name for these white globs is tonsilloliths.
Tonsil Stones don't do any physical harm, and sporadically coughing them up doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with you.

I've heard from some patients that GSE works great.Wouldnt hurt to try it.

mix about 8-10 drops in a small amount (1/4 cup) of water and gargle with it. I also take some internally (drink it). Do this 2-3 times a day. If it is too strong/weak for you use more or less GSE.

Throat Smell

It's either post nasal drip accumulating in the pockets of your throat, or food pieces, or possibly your tonsils are rotting. I have had the same thing off and on. I find that taking a decongestant before sleeping helps, as does drinking plenty of water, also try gargling with salt water before and after bed. I also have my own personal theory that eating sourdough bread contains a bacteria which is the same as what causes these smelly things. Never verified it, but next time you eat sourdough bread, see if you get those things a day or 3 later...

If you are sure that the itchy throat is from playing basketball than I would suggest Chloraseptic throat spray. It comes in a couple of flavors and cost around $4.00. You can buy it over the counter from any drug store. Sometimes you can get an itchy throat from allergy's and I first thought that when you said you were outside playing ball. Also, I want to encourage you to drink more water when your playing basketball because your sore throat can be caused from you breathing in and out heavily. So, drink up..............water that is. my sister is an asthmatic and she gets these too. They come up all of a sudden when she coughs and they smell terrible. She has found no way to prevent them, but we have discovered they seem to occur when she is having a bad flareup of asthmatic attacks or a nasty chest cold. I think they are lumps of phlegm that are left in the lungs after these attacks. This material is usually left behind from an infection in the lungs thereby giving off a nasty smell. I would check with a doctor and see what's going on. I hope everything turns out well for you.
