I am Mexican American and we born in USA speak to Americans in English. But Americans are anti-spanish and complain that people should order in english. Ok.

But when I am in my native country of origin of Mexico, Americans, Asians just walk right up to me and speak to me in English. They also order in English in our restaruants, All our movies theatres in Mexico are in English with spanish subtitles.

If you complain about Spanish in USA, I speak english to you in your country. Why do you speak to me in English in my country of origin?? Our people serve you in english in our restaurants in our country.

For instance, an Italian American posts sign in Philadelphia, "Order in English," But when they come to our latin countries, they order in English and speak to us in English in our own country of Orgin.

Also, remember that NAFTA allowed the free flow of goods, and that is why products have instructions in French, English, Spanish.

my answer depends on the situation.

situation A: if just visiting (like for vacation) i'll would continue to speak, order, pray, and think in english, because i do not speak spanish.

situation B: if i am living there, working there, raising a family and trying to establish myself there, i would take extreme measures to insure that i spoke the native language.

Dear Jason,

Now you hold on buddy!! I speak to you in English in your country. I am not illegal. If you come to my country of origin, you have to respect me and speak to me in spanish in my country of origin if you stay a short time or not. If you are a tourist or not. Because if you speak to me in english in my country of origin, I would retailiate and just walk right up to you in USA and speak spanish for your ignorance.

we order in english because we are TOURISTS buddy. The people we complain about are ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. we stay for a short time therefore not needing to leanr the spanish language because the mexican people cater to us. Illegal immigrants come here for the long haul and expect us to cater to them...not going to happen.

They're tourists. You can't expect them to learn Spanish in a week.
If they were to MOVE to Mexico, then, yes, I would expect them to learn Spanish. Just as I would expect anyone MOVING to the USA to learn English.
