Audi in part is owned by Volkswagon who also owns Porsche. Volkswagons are mostly made in Mexico. That explains the quality and cost difference between a Volkswagon and an Audi. An Audi made in North America would lose it's appeal. The quality would definitely go down. As well, it's cheaper for Audi to have their productions in Europe. They sell the majority of the vehicles in Europe and only a small percentage in North America. Where as Volkswagon sells quite well in North America but also in Europe but they have plant for Volkswagons in Germany. If Audi's become more popular they may start a factory in the States but for them it's not worth the commitment. All the parts are made in Europe. IF they were to ship all the parts to America to be assembled, they would take a lose on their cars. Therefore it's cheaper for them to build in Europe. Volkswagon parts are made in North America.

Audi's quality control and cost standards cannot be met by a U.S. factory.
