STORY by Robert Mckee. The author is probably the most knowledgable authority on what makes a great story, a great script, and a great movie. But it will challenge you on a lot of levels, like a college level course.

Certainly the one I have like best so far is, ZEN and the art of screenwriting insights and interviews. written by William Froug.
The shared dialogs of interviewer and writers clear the path as to what it takes to write a great screen play and all that goes with this task. A must read for any aspiring screenwriter. Fact of the matter, there are many successful ones that loved it. Do yourself a great kindness. Pick a copy up. SILMAN-JAMES PRESS
