Me and my friends were recently discussing this. The first movie was very popular among familys with children. And as we can see with Pirates 2 breaking Spider-man's record, this franchise has just exploded even more. During Sundays viewing there were many familys with children. Pirates 3 will most likely be bigger than 2.

So do you think these children will take to Pirates as we took to Star Wars? As they are both Fantasy films and have many similarties.

Hard to see, the future is... Probably not though. Star Wars has had such an impact on so many. 29 years old, still loved by those who first saw it in 1977, and loved by newcomers to the saga still. I'm proud to say that I loved when i first saw it at the age of 6, and thrilled that both my sons love it as much as I ever did. To be honest, I don't think that there has ever been a film or series of films that has impacted 3 generations like the Star Wars Saga has, and it's the sort of impact that can never really be recreated. Others may try, but they will always fall short.

Pirates of the Caribbean is the best pirate movie ever, and star wars was the the first great space opera (the king until 5th element was released).
I'm sure Pirates will remain a standard for years to come. Children will grow up fascinated whatching the DVD (or whatever new for mdeia shall come in) and hopefully become Zombie Fans. lol

Now go see the 1964 film "The Last Man on Earth" starring Vincent Price. His best film ever and it inspired George Romero to make "Night of the Living Dead".

Pirates is certainly entertaining, and I'm sure we'll look back (as will our kids, if we can get them to watch them) on the PotC series fondly. If you're asking whether or not it will hold the timeless appeal of Star Wars, the answer is a resounding no. Star Wars is phenomenal and holds such lasting appeal because of the central stories that it tells. Good vs. Evil. Light vs. Dark. Family, redemption. All the classic components of a hero story are there. Luke Skywalker is the perfect hero to Darth Vader's perfect villain. George Lucas' film teachers always said they'd never seen anyone who encompassed the mythology of the hero the way he did. It was though Star Wars that he gave us this. Not only are the movies highly entertaining, they are immensely, surprisingly, deep.

It will only become like Star Wars if ppl dressup as the charicters and have conventions and what not over the movie and memrabilia...

Not to mention they'd have to make some major advancements and show the hottest technologically possible effects EVER of our time, to be as legindary as Star Wars too...

So far I've only seen ppl dress as the charicters at Anime cons so it's more like a subgroup within a subgroup I think right now (I have no idea why they show up at Anime cons dresses as a charicter in an American Live Action movie... but everyone in the Captin Jack Sparow costume always looks SO cool LOL)

Not to mention this movie IS a remake too after all... I think most likely not, but who's to say, if it gets that popular maybe eh?

I love the Pirates films as much as anyone- and they definatly deserve a place in pop culture history but NOTHING I repeat NOTHING no one movie, no trilogy of movies will ever come close to the popularity, franchise, and lasting fan devotion of Starwars- do you really think in 25 years there will be conventions celebrating POTC? Or ANOTHER trilogy of Pirates prequels in 2 decades from now? Im betting NO.

Pirates just donesn't have the universe that Star Wars has. Star Wars has Luke, Obi, Han, Chewie, Leia, Vader, Sidious, Maul, Dooku, Grievous, Ewoks, and dozens of other planets and species. Pirates has Jack, Will, and Elizabeth. One has an infinite amout of characters and plots the other has 4 characters and 3 plots unless disney tries to continue and ruin it.

I don't think so. Star Wars is WAY better then Pirates of the Carribbean. I don't see them having many similarities. Star Wars is very unique, and like LOTR its fame will not be going away anytime soon. 'Pirates' will be here today gone tomarrow.

Well the Star Wars movies are MUCH, MUCH, better than these Pirates of the Carribean movies. So to answer your question... No.

PIRATES CAN'T COMPETE WITH STARWARS
pirates is a great movie, but starwars is a universe. Go into a library PN 1995 (nonfiction) should yield extensive resources on starwars, not just the movies, but the universe consists of movies, comics, games, books, TV series, anything!!
