There are so many abused & neglected children in America. Born to mothers that are drug addicts who care nothing about the child's welfare, or mothers who are mentally ill & violent towards the child, or mothers who allow their boyfriend to molest the child. Why would a woman choose to have a child under these circumstances, when birth control, adoption, & abortion are available alternatives to a potentially abusive situation?

By the way, I work with children that have been abused. I do everything I can to help them feel loved. The horrors that they have encountered are amazing.

I don't understand it myself. And it's honestly a vicious cycle, that I think will fail to end. There are so many women who can't pregnant who deserve to have a loving family, and yet teenagers who still don't even know how to wipe their own *** yet, have children they abuse, don't feed, neglect....These girls AND boys decide to have children, because there is no love, affection and attention in homes anymore, and children have to grow up and raise themselves, and they feel they are adult enough to have sex, then they realize when they have these beautiful angels that they can't handle it, and they end up becoming the same people they never wanted to be....their own absent parents!

First, we are starting on some biased assumptions, i.e. that these women actually know that they can't or won't take care of the children they beget. Although we are genetically programmed to look for a mate and reproduce, we can't say the same thing about parental skills, which are acquired voluntarily.
Seems like you're doing a great deal for these kids. Just don't let your indignation steer you towards feeling like you have to change or control the behavior of those "bad" mothers, however well intentioned you may feel. All you can do is to care for those children who, hopefully, will remember that loving gesture and outdo their own parents when their time comes.

These women aren't capable of well-reasoned decision-making and the government doesn't do enough to protect the children.
As a society what could we be doing to help these children. Should we offer free birth control and free abortion to female drug-addicts? Should we put drug addicted women with children on probation for eighteen years so we can monitor them?
I have a son and the court let his dad have visitation even though he and his wife left the other kids to go on vacation. My son was babysat by one of their daughters who was arrested for drug possession. On Montel today, there was a case where the courts gave visitation to a father who kept on telling his son to kill his mother.
So, my question is why when mothers or custodial parents are trying to do a good job are children ordered to visit negligent parents?

I don't think that most of these women intend to abuse their children. Unfortunately, because of drugs and mental illness children are abused and neglected. They are not in their right mind and are often not able to see that they neglect their children. It is a very sad situation that needs attention and is often ignored by the authorities until something tragic happens.

Well if they are doing crack, obviously they have no grasp of reality or what is best for their child. Sometimes luckily, after having a child, some women wake up.

In my opinion, lack of maturity is the major reason. If one is mature, they would realize that it is not the right thing to do. Then there are those who are selfish, stupid and mentally unstable. All in all though, immaturity covers most cases.

Christ. These dumb twits don't even have to abort these poor kids. They can always put them up for adoption.
