Remove grease/oil/tar from carpet
Pour cornstarch onto the spot. Rub in lightly. Let sit for two or three hours, then vacuum. This has always worked for us.

Resolve works wonderfully. I have used it on black grease stains in my gray car carpet. They were from factory workshoes. They just disappeared

Try "Bam". New product and is supposed to remove grease but check if it's okay for carpet. Or else "lanolin". Works great on grease on clothes without ruining them.

WD-40...that spray lubricant for squeaky doors? Spray, let it sit for a little bit, and blot up with a paper towel...you'll use lots of paper towels! That's how I got chunks of asphalt out of my carpet that my kids tracked in on their shoes. Just don't rub at the stain. You'll rub it in worse than it already is.

try putting some kind of absorbent paper over the spot and carefully running an iron over the top. At least some of the grease will melt and be absorbed by the iron.
