great answers...i dont buy the it looks like make up though, why not be confortable in your skin. i like the, it helps not to get sunburn theory, never thought of that

Because to be like really white is kind of discusting but I think it's nonsense cuz you've got to accept who you really are, and it's too fake, not healthy, but people think that being tanned is more atractive, there are millions of reasons.

Ever hear the saying you want what you can't have? Well white people like me...LOL... like the tan color and since I am not tan I want it so I go to the tanning bed. The funny thing is, is that my husband is from India and he is tan and he wishes he was as white as I was before I started tanning. But he does love my new tanner skin color. Life is just that way! It keeps you on your toes so that you never know what to expect. :-)

I don't tan... I wear sunscreen all the time because I'd rather be pale now and look awesome when I'm 50. Sun damages all skin types and ages people faster. My mom hardly tanned and she looks under 40 instead of 51!

Honestly? Well I tan because I'm extremely pale and if I burn up in the sun I get either a first or second degree burn. Tanning helps not to burn, even though I am techniqually giving myself sun burns. Other people do it to look cool, however they do it too much. Especially people with blonde hair, they can't over do it because then in my personal opion they look like a potato that's sprouting.

I am hispanic but have the snow white look going on and a tan definately looks better,but I hatetanning I feel like I am melting so I walk around looking like a corpse

Anyone gets tan. It doesn't matter what race you are. A tan is just your skin building up protection against the UV rays of the sun. Its just more noticable on people with lighter skin tones.

That "glowing" look people want to achieve conveys a sense of healthiness. Pale is equated with weak and sickly. So naturally, people want tans. Although, I think the pale, beautiful, and healthy skin is coming back into fashion.

To get darker, darker or a more bronzy sun kissed glow looks much better than being pale and sunken looking. Plus the sun is a good source of vitamin D

This is a great question. I have always wonder that myself. For years white ppl have hated on blacks but yet they get tans to try and be dark like us, y is that? Great question.

Not all do but it looks more attractive, really white skin is nasty lol, tanned skin turns chicks on, u know what I mean lol, take care, bye
