The tragedies. They are so powerfully telling of the human soul.
Macbeth is the story of a man undone--watching the dissolution of a soul because of ambition. That's powerful stuff.
Lear is the closest thing to Greek tragedy Shakespeare did and shows how far reaching can be the consequences of the foolishness of an old man (or any man).
Othello is the story of Iago really, and how one's weakness--in this case Othello's jealousy--can be used to destroy a person.
Romeo and Juliet shows the consequences of keeping up grudges, resentments, and creating division instead of showing the qualities of forgiveness and mercy. The lesson is driven home at the cost of the two heirs of the two families.
And Hamlet. A brilliant and extremely alert man, caught in a web, which, I think he knows from the beginning he has little chance of resolving successfully. The first fully modern man, psychologically, perhaps, in a play.
If the tragedies are not true, and MacBeth and Lear at least are true historical characters, yet, Shakespeare's understanding of man is so profound--of man's character, dilemmas of the soul, and he hits it so perfectly in the center. So, for me, the tragedies.

I love them all, but my favorites are probably the tragedies. I love the way they look deep into human nature and bring out the darkest parts.

The tragedies. Just the way how they look at human thought and conditionings. How everyone dies and how that makes you look closer at how you live or treat others

i havent read many of his plays but out of the ones i have read i loved the tragedies and specially OTHELLO because of its insight into the human mind.whether it was desdemona's innocence n faithfulness, cassio's loyalty, emilia's practicality, iago's jealousy or othello's lack of understanding-every thing was so beautifully and authentically portrayed that i just loved reading it.
