First, they say it'll be on the next flight

When it's not, they take your hotel info and say they'll deliver it

If they still don't get it to you, they'll give you a $50 voucher to buy necessities until they get it to you

If it still doen't show up, you have to submit a claim. The amount you can claim for replacement is limited by the contract (small print) on the baggage claim ticket - last time I noticed, it was $200 max.

Then, it shows up at one of those lost luggage auctions and they make a couple grand off your stuff.

As a veteran baggage loser... you go up to the counter by the baggage claim and file a claim. The airline is then required to drive the said luggage to your location once it is found. If it is not found, they will give you some standard amount to replace said luggage.

That means that your luggage did not come on the same flight that you did and is most probably in some other city.

You have to report it at the airline and if you are insured for your luggage you have to inform the insurance company also and claim your money
