There are two things you need to remember about job interviews:

1. Always give an honest answer. This doesn't mean that you have to tell them everything -- just don't lie.

2. They aren't just interviewing you -- you are interviewing them, too.

No one has ever asked me why I applied for a given job -- ever. If I had good reasons for applying, I would say it -- for example 'the work sounds interesting' -- I'I always wanted to work in this field' -- 'I love your company's product and want to be involved with it'

But ther is nothing wrong with saying "My current job is OK, but I want to work closer to home and think this might be a good fit."

There is also nothing wrong with turning it around and saying "I'm here because I want to find out if I am a good fit for this company -- can you tell me more about . . . ."

"My wish to further excel and improve my skills and gain more work experience into... "(whatever main duty/duties the job implies).

(Here you can also praise a little bit about the company that offers the job, this will prove that you have already read some information about the business they are dealing with and also proves you are interested and serious about the job. Try also to relate all this to your past work experience. Two, or three sentences are more than enough).

And you can end your answer with:

"I am an out-going, self-motivated, responsible person with a mature attitude. I like to be respected and supportive team player in addition to working on my own initiative. I have a keen aptitude to committing myself to the task in hand, making sure the deadlines are met and I am convinced I will make a perfect addition to your company/department."

The best of luck in your job hunt!

You don't want to be negative in any way towards your current employer. Companies like to see loyalty from an employee. So, I would answer something like, "I really enjoy my job and it will be hard to give it up, but with the price of gas and the long commute to work, I need to look for something more feasible economically."
