Three prongs or four prongs on the cord should make no difference as to how it will fit onto your dryer. You cannot plug either cord into a receptacle that has a different amount of prongs. You can switch cords on the dryers however to match the receptacle. The four wires on the cord usually are color coded red, white, black and green. The dryer has three terminals on the main terminal block. You can connect the black and the red wires to either of the outside terminals and the white to the center one. The green wire which is the ground wire connects to the cabinet ground screw located somewhere in that general area and may already have another green wire fastened there but if there is no aparent ground screw you can connect it to the csbinet under one of the screws that hold the terminal cover on. If you need to connect the three wire cord to the dryer you connect the two outer wires to the outer screws of the main terminal block and the middle wire to the center connection in other words just as the cord is it should be connected to the dryer without crossing and wires over any other wire.

I would go to electical shop to compare the cord you took off your dyer, and get the right one. if wrong cord could cause a fire . make sure you bring in the switch to match it up.

Buy a new cord. The correct one for your dryer.
