Hey, Captain America. George Washington wasn't the first person to cut a tree.
As for the question, people cut trees because they are a very valuable resource. I'm not going to get into it any further than that, because you're probably an enviromentalist freak who will nag me to death about how many innocent trees are cut down.

There is this strange material some call "Lumber" that can only come from trees, you might have heard of it under another name of "wood." This "lumber" substance can be found all around, and if you ask some one where you can find this "lumber," I'm sure someone can help you out. And there are other occasions when trees are "in the way," and need to be removed for the sake of them not being "in the way."

We need the timber for various things. We cut too many trees, but I think we're doing better about 'repopulating' the forests. Trees are essential to our survival.

Because they are stupid and figure they will be dead before the consequences happen to the planet and their grandchildren. The world demands a great deal of paper. I think it takes and entire forrest to put out one edition of the New York Times Sunday paper! Read up on it. It's real scary!

To stay in shape.
To work out frustration.
To make room for the new Walmart.
To make room for new subdivisions and apartment complexes and schools and highways and businesses and movie theatres and restaurants and convention centers and churches and energy refineries and water treatment facilities.
To make paper for cards, calendars, computer printout paper, toilet paper, envelopes, cardboard packaging, books, well, you get the picture.

Because people are f***ers who will stop at nothing to destroy innocent life forms. Why don't you also stop to ask, why do people kill animals for food when they are not starving and have no reason to eat meat?
