i want to send a text message from the computer to a friend's cell phone

You can use Yahoo messenger. You put + and the country code before the area code and number. On the text box ( above contact list) type in +1 555 555 5555 (+1 is for US). Then click on send SMS on the prompt.

You send it to the person MMS address if they have any. Usually
xyz@serviceprovider.com
xyz == phone number
service provider == provider's name

if the person has t-mobile, send it to
##########@tmomail.net
Otherwise, under Yahoo Mobile, it has a feature to send text messages to people. Use that

first go to ur yahoo messenger in thet on action menu you can see a writtern "send a SMS" in that type the number to whome u have to send sms

cell phones have email addresses... if it's with cingular... it will be 1111111111@mobile.mycingular.com *of course, the one's are your ten digit mobile number*

get the cell phone texting address,sometimes i do it thru yahoo i.m.
