Literacy is only over-rated by the literate.
The illiterate don't know what they're missing.
The semi-literate write questions like, "Why is literacy so over-rated?"

If you can't read and have to trust someone to read for you, likely you will be cheated a lot. Literacy is needed in this world for self protection! My friend who was dying of Aids could not read the info given to him that could have helped him early on in his problem. But before he died he had learned to read and take care of a lot of things. He could not read one word but learned very fast with the help of a literacy volunteer.
