Hell Yeah, he deserved it.
Zinedine Zidane wouldn't ever do something like that, unless what was said was really hurtful. Materazzi claims that he said normal stuff that you say and hear thousands of times, but I highly doubt that. The FIFA organization have even opened up an investigation for this incident, which proves that this is something big. I read that Materazzi said something really disrepectful about Islam, and as we all know Zidane is Muslim, so you know why this would offend him.
Another thing, I seriously do believe that if Zidane wasn't ejected from the game that France would've won The World Cup. I feel like that Italy kind of won in a cheating way.
Anyways.....
Zinedine Zidane: WE ALL LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!
YOU DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG!!!!!!!
WE WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU!!!!!

Yes !! Materazzi Deserved a headbutt!! or even more!
In the news today i heard and saw that:
Zizou's mom was in the hospital and she was very serious!Materazzi knew that his mother was in the hospital and was serious so he knew that if he would tell Zizou anything bad about his mom than Zizou would get Very Angry and do something stupid!
All this is true!
What u have heard that Materazzi told zizou a "dirty terrorist" is false!!
And all this was reported by a person from London who was very close to zizou and he also asked other French and Italian Players what Materazzi had said to Zizou which made him so angry!!!!!
Zinadeine Zidane is the best!! France is the best!!
Materazzi Sucks!! Italy Sucks!!
Italians are cheaters!!Suckers!!Bloody People!!
Thay dont deserve the WC

No, he deserves much more than Zidane's head-butted. He should not play in the international game like FIFA world cup, and even charity game. What will the world be if a player may insult other player with the nastiest words??? I can not understand the guys outhere who think that bastard Materazzi was right and Zidane was wrong. Materazzi should be dispelled from football and in fact, he should play chess with other Italian bastards. What bad attitudes you have, Italians!!! You stole the world cup!!!

Absolutely not. He is choosing not to talk because he knows that there was no racial slur. He lost his head as he wlays does. He was talking **** the whole game, like he always does, but when someone talks **** he cant take it. I am sure Materazzi was insulting and I am sure so was Zidane. Zidane had already converted a PK that was so underserved at the expense of Materazzi anyway so I am sure this lead to a lof of trash talkign back and forth.
No amount of verbal abuse should amount to physical abuse. A lot of people get verbally abused all day long on this website and forum but I do not see people trying to go kick each others' ***.

This is football. These sort of things happen daily around the world...so Zidane should be used to it.I think it was further perpetuated by pressure on him to perform in that final in Berlin.Having said that nothing merits such an act! Zizou shouldnt have done that. It shows a lack of professionalism and control in his emotions.Im sure this isnt the first time hes had such insults thrown at him! But Materazzi deserved it. Just that it should have be done outside in one backstreet one to one.
It was a shameful thing to do right in front of over a billion viewers worldwide!. Shame on Zidane!!!!
Both should be taken aside and punished!

Listen that was Terrible for Zidane to go out like that...he's a French legend....but no one is giving Materazzi crap and there are some lines you DON'T cross. Being black if someone turned around and said "you should have remained slaves" I'd kick him in the friggin' teeth..and I think even Pele' would back me on that. Italy wanted to win at ALL costs...even cheaply. Also The French should have had a plenalty kick after being tripped in the box on purpose..but it was a no call. In my eyes the Italians stole the cup and by saying(if it's true) what they said have lost ALL my respect...what a bunch of bastards!!

Certainly not. You cannot jump to violence so quickly especially, at that level of sports. Besides he provoked Materazzi first, and when he saw that Materazzi was not affected by his petty insults he couldn't take the heat that eas dished back at him. Zidane deserves any negative attention he gets and I hope his legacy is tarnished thoroughly. He has no place on the list of the all-time greats with repeated acts of unrestrained violence. Simply Classless

Yes, you don't go around calling people terrorists without getting a black eye for it. He deserved it. Although, Zidane should've have waited until after the game. Then he could pummel Materazzi without upsetting the fans.

It was wrong for Materazzi to say such a thing (I can guess it was bad, or else he wouldn't have gotten a big reaction), but it was equally wrong what Zidane did.
Don't get me wrong: I was an Italian football team supporter since day one. But these men are professionals-- kids view them as their heroes. Besides, like I said, they're MEN. Why would one have to try to start an argument, and the other get violent? They carried on like a bunch of children.

No way. Trash talking has been part of the sport forever -- and Zidane knows it. You counter in kind: trash talking is countered with trash talking, aggressive tackling is countered with aggressive tackling, etc... Nothing Materazzi could have said would justify him being sucker-punched with a head butt. I think they should take away Zadane's award.
