I listen to rap and Hip Hop on the regular basis and I'm perfectly normal. I'm not only one of the top Black student in my grade but I'm also one of the top students, no matter what race. As far as rap music being sexist by calling women "b*tches" and "hoes," I say it's not what you're called it's what you answer to and I know I'm not either of those things so it doesn't bother me. All rap music isn't bad.

well the expert is here. first off hip hop is a movement a lifestyle and rap is a genre of music. things can only effect u negatively if u allow. people need to stop blaming society for the lack of responsibility that parents take in raising their children. i grew up and love rap music, i live hip hop i have great aspirations and have not been negatively effected by rap music or hip hop culture. school has always come first, im respectful, great manner and knowledgable. now rap music has artists who speak positive messages listen to the real stuff, seperate the real from the fake. ya heard

Most Rap is sexist / demeaning to women, & promotes violence & gang activity / antisocial behaviour. Placing blame squarely on the shoulders of Rap, Gangsta, or for that matter, Heavy Metal & Punk for gang violence, anti - social behaviour, etc., is about like saying television violence & violent video games have a negative effect. They can all be contributing factors. When I was younger, Rock was thought of as a " Bad influence " ( Elvis swiveling his hips on the Ed Sullivan show, The Beatles claiming they were greater & better known than Jesus, Alice Cooper decrying religion, Ozzy depicted as a Satan - worshipper ). I listened to the biggies of the 60's - 80's & I didn't become a gun - toting, drug - abusing sociopath. & a lot of other kids that did are now respected business - people & responsible citizens. So it follows that NOT EVERYONE who likes Rap, Hip - hop & Gangsta is going to join a gang, become a crack - head rapist & kill or be killed in a drive - by.

todays hip hop yes. you have ppl making rymes about gang banging and threats and rymin about murders they commit or will commit, that are not true, killing other ppl. this is what hip hop has become. so when a middle class white teenager hears 50 cent talk about how cool it is to kill some one or beat the sh*t outta some one they think its cool. most kids only think the song sounds good but once you think song sounds good you listen to it over and over again you pick up the lyrics. in a white culture i dont think it has a great effect on them. it just makes them think there hard and can pick on anyone. in a lower class black community it may have a much larger effect. so many rappers are feeding them bull about how hard you gotta be and how much money you gotta have and show how fcking arrogant you are. so alotta black kids think they hard think they can pick fights on anyone start drug dealin to get the money and become completly arroganent. these are extreme effects but it does happen. i love hip hop ye know just not the bull thats out these days

well if the child has got in any trouble in his life it will give that kid ideas.... like a kid at mi skool brought vodka in a water bottle and does really bad things beacuse he listens to rap. Everyone is diffrent. I listen to it and i stay out of trouble. So if the child had a little bit of child it is probably bad for this child to be listening to it.

None of the music is positive so how could it affect anyone in a positive way? It's demeaning to women and promotes gangs and violence. I don't think that's very positive.

I don't believe so. But because people who sell drugs or get into a lot of trouble listen to it, it is often associated to teens as a negative influence. I don't agree.

i used to think it didn't, but in all honesty i think it does a little bit.
it all depends on what kind of rap and hip-hop you listen to... if it's positive then i see no problem... most of it is not positive though!
