Babies can see from birth if their eyes aren't treated with silver nitrate. They have limited ability to *focus* however. In other words, if you hold a newborn about 12" from your face, she will see you clearly. If you hold her 24" from your face, she will still see you, but blurry. She should still recognize you, though...if you don't think she is seeing you, talk to her doctor. And, yes, it is normal for her eyes to cross occasionally. If it seems to be a *lot*, then, again, talk to your doctor.

Newborns can see a short distance at birth. Many medical professionals temporarily hinder this by putting antibiotic drops in the babys eye which blur there vision until the anitbotic drys. Your little girl however can see clearly about the same distance as the distance from mummys breast to face and she is infact looking at mummy. This is a biological process that helps mother and child and child form an attachment bond. Her vision will gradually get longer and she will be able to hold focus on objects longer. Babys eyes are naturally crossed some of the time because they are not fully developed and will eventually become coordinated. If her eyes still appear crossed some of the time by the time she is three months they recommend you get her assessed by a doctor.

Congratulations! Babies can see from birth, things just have to be really close! And it IS normal for her eyes to cross while she's trying to focus. I have read that the muscles are a lot stonger and this should stop between 4-6 weeks

Babies do see when they are born. They can see close up things. They are practicing focusing and their little eyes do cross. It will go away eventually. The rule of thumb for a newborns eye sight is that they can see from about the distance of the mothers breast to her face.

newborns can see-not actually see, but they tend to follow the movements, lights etc. and don't wonder why sometimes she stares a lot..she's not yet know how to control the movements of muscles in her eyes...Funny cuz when we were videotaping him(baby), we actually saw as his eyes roll then cross then roll again. I should know cuz that's what my eldest sister told me. She just gave birth to a boy on July 3..so means your baby and her's are both in the same stage of adjustments..Goodluck. Don't worry. Let months pass. It's normal & it's part of her development.

i think it takes them about a month to see u up close but about three months for them to actually start seeing a little farther at least a couple of feet away from them.also girls are a little faster then boys.and yes it is normal for their eyes to cross they eventually stop.
