My wife and I have had this problem in two of our new homes in North Eastern Florida over the past 3 years. Our pest guy (from Term***x) has no idea what these things are. Tiny black / sand colored jumping bugs that come out at night and infest our carpet and tile floor. They are about the size of this period ( . ) Even with a magnifying glass it if very difficult to make out their features. I can say for sure they have small antenna and best discription I can give is they look like tiny long beatles that jump. They do not look like any type of fleas I have ever seen. If there are any native North Floridians in the Yahoo answers house, I am sure they would have a good idea as we are assuming they are common because we also had a similar problem in a different house a few years ago in the same area of North Florida.

Wow, you guys are fast. One additional thing is they do not fly. Someone had mentioned the sand fleas to me so I did some web surfing and they don't look like the sand fleas mentioned.

I am from Gainesville and I am almost positive that what you are seeing are "sand fleas". Thay are also known as No-see-ums and punkies. Take a look at this site and see if it might be this.

This is what we called them anyhow, so even if it's not accurate, this is the popular name to call these pests.

I think you need to get a second opinion from another bug guy. Anyone I know from Florida has experienced these pests, even if we don't know their technical name.

might be fleas. A guy I know had the same problem with fleas. I thought that if you had pets then you were at risk of having a flea problem, but I guess fleas can appear in the area even if no pet is present.

Fleas. No-see-ums fly and bite like misquitos. If youo live in Florida you know. Just use one of those aerosol bug killers and clear the room for a few hours. Put one in every room or they can travel. Kill them now because they can lay thousands of eggs.

Fleas. a thanks to kill them is to blend some gasoline and polystyrene, spread it on your carpet, and gentle it. the blend, is combustible yet burns at a valuable low temperate so as now to not ruin some thing. Open your living house windows first although! it's going to smell fantastically nasty, notwithstanding the fleas will all be burned out. I advise once you've pets de-fleaing them too.

See if any nearby health departments have bug guys (the one where my mom works in ohio does) and bring one for them to inspect.
