This information is not available or even mentioned on any website I've seen on hysterectomies. Different methods are discussed, but none really give these kind of details.

The night before I had mine, they made me clean out my bowels and then the medicine they give you to numb you and put you to sleep also cause your bowels to kinda go lax for a little bit. They told me the bowels are the last things to "wake up" after surgery, that is why they put a cath.in for urine and not worry about your bowel movements. But they always make you go before you go home to make sure they are working properly. Good luck.

In our practice the "vermiform appendix "is removed everytime the abdomen is opened.Same during hysterectomy. This is useful in preventing Appendicitis.. Nothing else is done to bowels.
