My son farted in front of his aunt & uncle (my brother), which my brother got very mad about - to the point of cussing (bad - starts with F) at him and lecturing him for about 15 minutes. Is farting really that bad to where you should be angered at a child for doing so? My son is 13, and thinks that farting is funny, but isn't doing it intentionally.

Why don't you punish him for breathing too? Farting is a natural thing and it should not be punished. Maybe he just couldn't control it. Cut him some slack for cutting the cheese. The poor kid was probably embarrassed enough as it was. What's the deal with your brother lecturing him like that? You should have told your brother to **** off, like your brother has never farted before. I hate it when people overreact like that. Maybe your brother should try farting a little more, then he wouldn't be so uptight.

No ones farts intentionally. And if they inherited such a skill, congrats to them. I dont understand why your brother was cussing at him and lecturing him for 15 minutes. The only thing your son could've done at that time was to apologize. But if he was laughing then his uncle probably found that disturbing. But still, I don't get why he was so pissed about it.

I think your brother went way too far. Farting is a normal bodily function that just happens. I am a 20 year old female and when my husband or me or even our dog farts we just burst out laughing. I would just have a talk with your son (but her probably already knows this) is that when you are somewhere proper where he knows someone will take offense, just to politely say exuse me and not to laugh. But otherwise, laugh it up. If you don't have humor in your lives then to me life is very dull.

your brother was way to harsh on him! I feel sorry for the guy! Its normall for kids of almost nay age to do that! Especailly boys. Also your brother doesnt have a right or say in how you raise yuor kid(s). Next time he farts, just say "Could you please not do that while other people are around you". Tell him to leave the room or joke with his friends, 'in a kind voice'. Well good luck.

Punishing someone for farting is probably one of the stupidest things I've ever heard.
It would be like punishing them for going to the bathroom, it's a natural thing!

At 13 kids are still in puberty and they think dirty things. Farting is nothing. Everyone farts at least once in a lifetime.

Farting is completely normal even delebrately at this age. It is funny I wouldn't worry about it. When he is an adult he'll be a bit more discreet. Everybody farts.
