I get migrains pretty oftain and have been to the doctor for them several times. I've gotten shots for them and prescriptions for them but I really hate taking medications because of all of the possible side affects. I've tried laying in a dark room or standing in the shower letting the hot water run on my head, it gives temporary relief but the headach just doesn't go away. Any suggestions??

Since you've tried so many other options (without success), I would like to recommend seeing a chiropractor. Contrary to popular belief, chiropractic is more than just "neck and back pain." Chiropractic is founded in the belief that our Central Nervous System (brain, spinal cord, and nerves) controls EVERY bodily function. A misalignment of the vertebrae (what chiropractic calls a "subluxation") could pinch the nerves running out between them, causing pain, numbness/tingling, or any type of general malfunction of that nerve's corresponding body part. This is why chiropractic has tremendous success in helping people with headaches, numbness in hands and feet, chronic ear infections, and many others.

There are many different chiropractic techniques out there, so it would be best for you to ask around for recommendations, visit a few offices and pick the doctor that you are most comfortable with. Taking pain medication is only masking the symptom of pain, but is not correcting the problem (in addition to having unwanted side effects). I'm not saying that this is a definite cure for you, but it might be something to consider. No matter what you decide to do, I sincerely hope that things improve for you.

Yes, During the first part of a migraine, lay down as soon as you can & apply a hot compress to your head. At the same time, raise your legs & feet up to a 90 degree angle against the wall.
The idea is to get as much blood to the head as fast as possible. This will abort the constriction phase of the headache. Also stretch your neck & your arms; massage your scalp, and breathe deeply. It's important not to get up for about an hour.

When you get good at this your migraine will be over in about an hour; if you try to get up too soon, you'll have to start all over again.

Ok- not really a natural method, however you do not have to ingest anythig. Take some Vics vapor rub and smear it all over the bottom of your feet- then put socks on. Your cough should be gone or at least be better soon. Hope this helps. I don't like taking meds either so this helps.

Try saturating a cloth with a tincture of witch-hazel and apply to the part of the head where the pain is located; renew when the cloth becomes dry. Headaches that are produced by an excessive flow of the blood to the head, or is attended to the same, is usually cured with this remedy.

OMG. I wish I had any answers. I just want to tell you that you're not alone. I get them about three times a week and they're very severe. I don't work anymore. I do take meds and it just takes the edge off. And I've tried all sorts of alternative stuff too, acupuncture, biofeedback, chiro... I have gotten totally despondent.

When my 10 year old son gets one I give him a hot shower or if it's to bad a wet wash clothe. A friend of mine said she read where putting a slice of lime on the head can help. I've never tried it. I forget to buy limes when I shop.
