From what i understand, it would be accurate to say that the events that take place in your life between 1 - 7 years of age effect your personality for the rest fo your life. We should also consider heredity and other enviromental factors like culture, soical status etc....

Early childhood has a huge impact on many things in your life and the experiences you have then can impact on you later. This is a particuarly Freudian belief. Pschotherapy and psychoannalysis are based on the theory that identifying and understanding these experiences will enable a patient to cope better or understand why they act a certain way later in life.
Although Early Childhood is incredibly important, it does not pre-programme you for the rest of your life. Think how you have matured/changed in the last year! If it did set your personality then things like psychotherapy would not be able to work. This question also brings up the nature/nurture question as personality traits can be inherited or learnt.

Some psychotherapeutic schools would agree, at least in part, though the age would differ and is not a set age.
You may wish to look at and read some Transactional Analysis lit by Eric Berne and those after him...
Object Relations is another area if your interested in the topic...
Though there are other I will leave you to read and seek for yourself, much more rewarding ... And I cant be bothered to write a long long list, its just toooo hot for that ... ;-) ...
Go Well & Good Luck ....

We all develop personalities very early. Personalities are not necessarity behavior. Behavior is a choice and can be changed in a mentally healthy person. And sometimes with med in one who isn't. Personalities are a disposition toward the world but no matter how positive our personality tends to be it will not be enough to control our behaviors in terms of making them bad or good. Behaviors are based on experiences and the learning process.

Our personality isn't set during those years, but our ability to communicate and use our bodies are set during that time.
Personalities take years to develop, but from birth to around 5-7 years of age is where we learn the important stuff: talking, walking, holding objects and feeding ourselves.
The rest just develops over time due to outside influences.

No. I think all our experiences have an impact on our personality. Traumatic events and those which require big life changes, like bereavements have a big effect on our personality. Right into old age our personalities can change.

Your basic personality traits are entrenched in those early years of development- especially if trauma is experienced then, it can have deep effects. Obviously other events in later years influence you but those first 5 formative years create your base.

Maybe not the personality, but the ability to acquire a language as a native speaker is. This is why when you learn a foreign language later in life you won't be able to master it to the same extent as you do your maternal language/s.
