Give it to them in the their thigh near the tail but a little lower (whereever the fattiest part is), it's the least sensitive body part. Just do it quickly but gently, and stay off to the side in case they kick.
Might be a good idea to call a horse-breeder or vet (that deals with large animals) to get a second opinion. Just in case.

OMG!!!! none of these people work with horses!!!
i dont know about cows, but i know about horses. You need to find the muscle in their neck. look up a picture of a skeleton of a horse. and imagine that on your horse. avoid the spine. a good way to find the right spot is to stand on your horses left side facing the same direction as him. now hold the lead with your right hand, and take your left , and fingers pointing towards his eyes, run it down the length of his neck towards his shoulder. you will start to feel a groove about the size of your palm the closer you get to his shoulder. if the heel of your hand actually touches his shoulder its like 1-2 inches too far. now: lift your hand, and in the center of where your palm was is where the shot should go. go at an angle towards his eyes and it should be all good. it sometimes helps if you push with a finger, and put the shot under where youre pushing so it hurts less....
you SHOULD have your vet show you for the first time, but if that is not an option, then do the above. maybe have him show you just to be sure next time he's there. :)

It's simple, to give shots to horses! The 'safe' area, is the thick muscle pad on the side of the neck, about halfway between poll and shoulder. Some prefer to use the pad on the back of the rump, but, no thank you. :-)
Just warm the syringe in your hands a few moments, shoot one little 'bead' of vaccine out the end of the needle, swab off a nice portion of neck muscle with some alcohol on a chunk of cotton swab, and plunge the needle straight in! A nice quick 'pop' is always best. Mine, have seldom seemed to feel it at all; at least none of them ever reacted to it.
To be absolutely correct, you can remove the needle, and pop THAT in first, THEN, attach the syringe securely, and push in the plunger. Only, I have never, ever had a 'bleed' by just popping in the whole business, and vets tend to do it that way, I've noticed.
Oh, and a couple more tricks. If any of your horses is 'needle-shy', have a friend handy, to stand in front of you, and shade the eye on that side, so the animal cannot see it. This REALLY works miracles. Also, after you swab on the alcohol, tap on the neck (with CLEAN fingers only, please) a few times, before pushing in the needle.
You'll have no problems! Just, don't allow your animals to know that YOU might have some qualms about doing it...

first determine what type the shot is- is it intramuscular or intraveinous? if it is intramuscular, then you can do it your self. On the larget part of the horses neck on the side you can visualize a huge traingle that starts at the top of his neck.Aim for the middle. place the needle at the site of injection and push hard enough to get it in. then squeeze out the vaccination. this will go into the muscles and you will be done. If it is intraveinous then call your vet. he can locate a vein quicker than snot. do not attempt to give him one on your own. if you feel like you can give the shot then call your vet. also, he can determine what type the shot is.

I am an RN and I can only assume that it is the same. First you get your landmarks, you know make sure you are in the right place, clean the area and most important part is how to deliver the injection itself. LIKE THROWING A DART. Really it is all in the wrist. No hesitation. Just throw the dart at the bullseye and it will be ok. Remember, no hesitation, especially just as the needle passes through the skin. Draw back to make sure you get no blood (to make sure you are not in an artery), and injsct slowly and evenly. \\no problem janet

Call a vet!! How did you get the vaccine without one? Don't give the horses anything until you are 100% sure. It depends on the vaccine as to where it needs to be administered

Get the vet - you don't know what you are doing, the vet will show you so you can do it in the right place the next time.
Don't mess with stuff like this, it's not guesswork, it must be done in the correct place, get an expert to show you
