I have this problem often throught he summer living in the country with well water.

The best thing I have found is good old fashion pine soil 1 cup to a full wash of hot water (no clothes of course) let it wash when it hits the rinse cycle and is completly full add 1/2 cup bleach let it rinse and sit for about an hour. let it finish spinning then run one more cycle with nothing to make sure no additives are left. I always give it an extra spin to make sure all the water is out of the machine.

Trust me it works!!!!

I agree with the bleach contingent. First try try removing any obvious mildew with bleach water and a cloth. Then run a cycle or two with a nice helping of bleach.

Anything that would kill the organisms would do the trick.

Maybe a couple cycles of bleach followed by many rinsings to disinfect it.

But you would have to make sure that all the residual bleach is washed out.

Bleach will kill anything.

try washing just a load of bleach water(cold, hot water prevents bleach from disinfecting), pretty strong. then wash it again with hot water and no bleach or detergent to get the bleach water out so you dont mess up the next load.
