Sky blue was the color of the Royal House of the Kingdom of Italy. A mainstain in Italian history that has housed many nobles including dukes and kings of Italy.
The Italian soccer team used to wear white shirts, but after their first match, they switched to sky blue.
So forth, wearing sky blue could be a way to commemorate Italy's history.
Blue is also a part of Italy's national soccer team logo.

I've always wondered, especially since I've seen other teams without the color blue on their flags (which is how I would think they would choose uniform colors) with blue uniforms. Good question, though I don't have an answer.

As for the Dutch, for years they have been strong candidates for "What Not To Wear".. Sadly they still have not figured out that florescent colours really don't go with a pale alabaster skin tone....
Man those orange jersey's are so nasty.
