Call the zoo in question, and ask! If they have room, they could say 'yes', quarantine him for whatever period they see fit, then allow him to be on exhibit! If they do not 'need' him, they may know of another zoo which would really like to have him.

When I was a child, many many years ago, my Dad and I got permission from a small zoo where we lived, to donate a tame female Mallard duck to the already existing group there. Being such a common creature, we never dreamed they would accept her, but they did, and even allowed us to release her ourselves! I had felt that her two years as a lone backyard pet duck was 'enough', and that to be fair, she needed to be with others of her kind.

It sure never hurts to inquire!

You only can ask. Most zoo's suffer from an abundance of common critters (a savanah monitor not being rare either in the wild or captivity). I would guess that they probably won't take it, and point you towards the local animal shelter. You should also check out local herp rescue agencies. I think they would be your best bet in the first place.

Most zoos get dozens of calls every day from people just like you who thought it would be fun to get an exotic pet, and decided later that they couldn't maintain that committment to that animal. Zoos aren't in the business of taking in someone else's problems and unwanted animals. Go ahead and call them - it's worth a shot, but it's extremely unlikely that they would be willing to take your animal. Not only is it unlikely that they have room, but it's a disease risk and liability for their current animals.

A better bet is to find a reputable reptile rescue organization in your state or region. They can help you place the animal in an appropriate environment.

Then, be sure to spread the word that exotic animals don't make good pets!

Usually zoos wont take donated animals from private owners. But it wouldn't hurt to call and ask.

no most zoos do not accept animals from the wild because they need to tract bloodlines for breeding. Also disease and changes in animal behavior because of human contact. Domesticated animals would have trouble adapting to a new enviroment along with animals of its own kind.

It would make the most sense to ask the zoo, I think.
Here's their website. It has contact information on it.

You might have to give whichever group you donate them to money as a sort of way to pay for their well-being.
