I used to live in Prospect Park which borders Paterson when I was in college. I'm not sure where you live now, but price is relative. Paterson is cheaper than a lot of other cities in the area, but it is a crowded city with higher crime rates than in most of the surrounding cities. Here are some crime statistics. You can enter the city you live in now for comparison:

I have also lived in Wayne, which is very close by and considered more up-scale, and had a dingy, dirty, outdated, one bedroom apartment for $910.00 per month. my apartment in Prospect Park was about $750 per month, and that was 2 bedrooms in a house that was converted into several apartments.

Ive lived in paterson nj most of my life and let me tell you i wouldnt let my kids live anywhere near here. First of all crime my apartment has been broken into once in my six years here. Second drugs, every 4 to 5 blocks i know someone that sells weed. But crack i only know one person who sells. Im not into that but just saying. Its dangerous here! Every once in a while i hear gunshots. The most recent one me and my friends were gonna get high in downtown, we got to the corner of the street and hear a gunshot so close i had to get behind i car. And if i needed to i can just go to passaic real quick and get a pistol for 30 bucks! Ive been chased down by 3 black seniors and got the **** kicked out of me just because im dominican. This has happened more than ten times. I used to love school and hate violence. But peer pressure from family and just a bad environment has turned me into a pot, and cigarette smoker with bad grades and almost joined a gang. If you alone then its aight but please dont bring kids in here

Ha Ha if the guys wants you he should move to be next to you and they just raised taxes they can't even pass a state budget with out shutting down the state and unless you want to spend 1500 a month in rent (with out utilities) I wouldn't move to NJ
Move to PA it is cheaper and about 1 hour to 1 /2 drive to depending on where you are going....

patterson isn't too expensive. there are a lot of areas there that i wouldnt want to be alone in if you catch my drift. some parts are nice, some parts are really bad.you'd probably be better off moving to a town outside of patterson, like saddle brook, elmwood park, or fair lawn. back in the day patterson was the place to be, used to be a very lucrative industrial city.

Really depends on where you live now, its middle of the road go rent wise about $800-900 for decent 1 bedroom, diverse community consisting mainly of Arabs, Hispanics, and Blacks. Close to a lot of major highways and tons of places to eat. Anymore questions feel free to contact me, good luck and I hope this works-out for you.
