I feel almost split on this debate since i'm considered by some a hybrid. But why is it that when a person of European ancestry makes a racial slur even as a joke he is thought to be a racist. But when a minority tells a racial joke he is thought to be normal if not praised for coming up with such a good one. Though we should never say any racial jokes cause they're hurtful why is it that it seems okay for a minority to. Since wouldnt it be reliving the dreadful past that so many people want to put behind us.

RACIST is a person who has the POWER to control or do harm to a person of another race. What you are talking about is white supremacy. A joke is a joke.

RACISM is about POSITION and INSTITUTIONALIZED discrimination to keep another minority group from achiving equal position as the dominant majority..

The only people who can be racist are people who have POLITICAL, ECONOMIC or SOCIAL POWER and /or DOMINION over others.

Most people have no idea what the word racism really means and think that it can be used against anybody, however, true racism is about superior position.

Examples

White people in America who are the dominant group can choose to keep immigrants from non-white countries out so they never partake in the American dream.

Chinese people in China can choose not to allow minority groups such as Japanese from participating in any of their employment positions.

Africans can choose not to allow Whites to live anywhere in Africa.

Blacks in America CANNOT, ABSOLUTELY CANNOT be racist against WHITE's in America because whites are dominant and have the superior position (right now anyway). However, Blacks can be racist against other minorities such as ASIANS. Then again, the most Blacks can do is use epithets simply because the true scoioeconomic system is actually domiaated by Whites.

WHITE SUPREMACY is the form of racism prevalent in America, but elswhere around the world in countries such as India, China and Japan, racism exists against Whites, other Asians and Arabs.

A racist is a shallow minded ppl who judge others, usually for not having the same skin color or race.. well, for me a racist is a racist, either he/she comes from the majority or minority group.. God created human according to His own appearance (the Bible says..) so, not a single human has a right to consider some other as somewhat a lower class of ppl..

Racism means what the dictionary says it means, regardless of what dslcobra says. But I hasten to add: If a black person interviews a white for a job, finds the white to be the best qualified candidate for that job, but hires a black person anyway--that, dslcobra, is racism, by a black, right here in America. To use your own words: "The only people who can be racist are people who have POLITICAL, ECONOMIC or SOCIAL POWER and /or DOMINION over others." But your view is way too narrow. A stupid, inbred, knuckle-dragging, white cracker, who has no POLITICAL, ECONOMIC, or SOCIAL POWER and/or DOMINION can be a racist. So can the same kind of black. Hate is hate. It's ugly, and it breeds racists of all colors.

That's a good question...I would ever want to make a racist joke, but why for example, do african americans call each other by the "N" word sometimes when it is so offensive to their own race? I don't believe that they should do this...they should respect who they are and their ancestors and what they have been through.

First of all we need to understand that races were natural created to adapt our bodies to a specific natural conditions. Through the time the man started to move from one natural place to another so fast that the nature couldnt evolve as fast. Then, we ended staying in places where we just looked different. Based on that natural conditions we developed ideas, technologies, etc ... we evolved based on our environment conditions but in the bottom we shared the same capacities and in a way we looked for the same things... medicin, astronomy, religion etc.

Before different races ended in the same place... inside one race only different ideas or actions created a feeling of being afraid of the new, of loosing something etc. Afraid, because they couldnt understand themselves and they were afraid of trying something new or afraid of changing and loosing what they were in the inside. Also you could see different classes but with the same color.

When races became together it was not longer a difference of ideas or actions but something that the eyes could see clearly, the more "developed" races considered the others less value. It was not only the rich and the poor it was a new "class/color" in the society.

Now we have the "same conditions" but nature havent been able to evolve as fast. We are many green, pulple, red in the same place and there are some persons who havent understand that we are at the end "humans".

Some people in some races havent understand that the world has changed and that now we can find different colors in the same place. They dont understand who they are and where they go. They are afraid of loosing their indenity and because some colors used to control others the think they are superiors and they are afraid of loosing their positions.

So at the and who can be racist? People who dont understand themselves, who dont understand human evolution, who dont understand human development, who are afraid, afraid afraid, people who recognize a weakness and tries to hide it by atacking other race, people who dont undertand the richness of their race and their participacion in human evalution...

And at the end because of how we share the same land being color different you can find this anywhere in the world. Where can you find this problem not to be "that big"? in places where races understand that we all are humans, where there are so many of some as the others so they are equal in strength and they dont feel afraid from each others.

Unfortunately we dont develop our brains as fast as we move our legs...

Everyone can, and most people have been racist at one time or another in their lives. Doesn't matter what color your skin is, people are simply scared of people that are not just like they are. Rich white people are scared of po' white people, just as a Rich black would be off his game around a bunch of po' blacks. Race isn't the only factor. There are many other causes.

I have met plenty of racist black people who were in the position of power! There are racists in every race. In America now there is reverse racism. I've been stepped over many times by employers who hire and promote black, hispanic or other ethnic group just based on their race. It is only in my experience, I don't mean to generalize. However, it did happen many times.

No one should be racist in action or deed. It is human nature to categorize and stereotype so it's not like people will ever stop doing that--it's how people choose to react to the stereotypes in their head that matters.
