Because often war is the only way to resolve an issue. Slavery was not going to be stopped by words, Hitler was not going to be stopped by words. We would not have achieved independence by just words. There is usually a lot of talk and compromise before war, but once war starts, people forget that and just focus on the violence. Often, it is the only answer that works. Even on a smaller level, the bully will not stop until you stand up to him.

Because war IS the answer. It's the classic battle between good and evil. And by little dispute you mean evil monsters attempting genocide. Hundreds of millions of people put to death this century from the "little disputes" we turned our backs on thanks to liberals. That's heinous evil.
It turns out that "Give Peace a Chance" is nothing more than another liberal lie, designed to promote genocide. It's disgusting how they manipulate our better nature. Of course, people like us want peace, want a world dedicated to love and harmony. The problem is that the world is filled with evil monsters.

The Bible says that the purpose God gives power to secular governments is to punish those who do evil. But what about when those who do evil ARE the government? The answer used to be: nothing.
Then came the United States. Finally, a nation with the power to free these people from their horrible oppressors and the caring (and brass) to do so.
(Granted, we should have gone into Iran or North Korea first...)

Because for some people war is a pretty good deal. Of course they aren't at the tip of the spear either.

Because people's pride gets in the way of working out a solution and when one country wants the land of another, they flex their "military" muscles.

the catch word in your question is "we." We, as in all of us, don't usually decide to go to war. Our governments do. There are many reasons our governments go to war but usually these three are at the top - money, money, money

Violence is inherent to our nature. It is the most natural instinct that we have, second only to survival.
