I used to get migraines about once/year (I know...not much). When they began occurring more frequently, I asked my chiropractor if there was anything he could recommend that would help. He said, "Try Alka Seltzer Gold."

That sounded kind of hokey, but I decided that I didn't have anything to lose. Two tablets dissolved in water and taken as soon as the aura starts stops the headache in its tracks within 10 - 15 minutes. I've been taking Alka Seltzer Gold for migraines for about 15 years. In that time, I have gotten the aura many times, but have never had the migraine itself.

My sister had migraines that were much more severe than mine. The Alka Seltzer Gold doesn't work quite as well for her as it does for me. However, she has said that it makes the headache much less severe and of shorter duration. Her motto is "Alka Seltzer Gold...don't leave home without it."

You could go to your D.O. and get an adjustment.... and they can also perscribe medication. This is usually covered by insurance.

Sure ways? None really. Avoid stress so that muscle tension does not start them.. easier said then done.

Excedrine migraine works well, but has a lot of caffeine in it so be careful with your heart.

There are many medications out there as well, but they too are not sure fire in any way.

The best "cure" is to be better organized. I've experienced similar symptoms and being organized seems to work. Sorry. You said any, so I gave you one....then how about going out into the sunlight more (if you aren't already) and spending time with friends and have fun to relieve you of depression and anxiety;stress can cause a lot of problems. Normally, during this season, there are more cases of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). The sunlight can help with that.

I see many good answers to your question. I have suffered migraines since i was a child. A darkened room & cold on the area in pain has worked very well & Is about the cheapest I know of.
Figure out your tirggers. Stress, food allergies, many are brought on by things we can control.
Chiroprators help& a good diet.

a chiropractor visit and massage will wipe it out pretty good. That's expensive though. You might wanna try the dark room, quiet or soft music, taking a muscle relaxer with coffee, going to bed with a hot pack on your upper back to stimulate blood flow, ice on your head to reduce contricted blood vessels, some menthol product to help sinus/jaw pain (you would rub it on the jaw by the ear), and sleep. Sometimes a hot bath with an ice pack on your head helps too. If you can get someone to massage your head it helps too. Sometimes migraines come from unusual causes like tmj, sinus, lack of sleep or caffeine. Another good thing to do is try to massase your scalp and temples as the muscles usually tighten up in there too. Try to drink alot of water, water flushes out toxins.

Hypnosis. It's the most effective way I know. Maybe not so cheap depending where you live, but it'll make you feel great in lots of other ways, too!

i swear this works,
put your head on someone elses head that does not have a headache. touch your temple to their temple on the side your head hurts, close your eyes and fell the heat from their head for about 5-10 min. you will get rid of your headache, but the downside is that the other person will get your headache.

Usually eating blueberries, strawberries or raspberries can help minimize them by increasing the blood flow.
