Euro 2004: Totti was suspended for 3 games after a Danish TV brought the video to the officials. Totti was "crucified" by the media all over the world: it was the biggest story of the tournament. Totti lost his chance of winning the European golden ball.
No one had the courage of questioning if Totti was provoked... everyone was scandalized by the gesture.
In meantime, a scandalous game from Denmark and Sweden ended 2-2, the only result and score possible that would have send Italy home!
No one in the media had the courage on investigating the matter: everyone was so busy on judging Totti's behavior.

2006 World Cup: Zidane headbutt Materazzi.
Most of the media around the world are busy to understand what provoked Zidane, what Materazzi have said to him! The French President congratulates Zidane for what he has done for his Country. Blatter and Platini (FIFA's President and FIFA's Official) do not attend the cosignment of the trophy. Zidane is awarded with golden ball.

Soccer Mind, you raise some very interesting points. I did notice the absence of Blatter, Platini, and Pele at the awards ceremony when Italy was awarded the World Cup. Blatter, as FIFA President should be obliged to be present and for as long as I can remember, Pele has always made an appearance.

The results in Euro 2004 were a little too coincidental in my opinion. But of course nobody would dare raise the spectre of collusion. Such things are only raised when the Italian team is involved. Afterall, there are so many "wise" bigots out there who say that Italians are liars, cheaters, thieves, etc..., so it must be true!! Unfortunately, it has become way too fashionable to disrespect Italians.

Now don't get me started on the so-called offside goals scored by Italy against South Korea in the second round of the 2002 World Cup... Why was it only after the World Cup ended that FIFA and the popular media acknowledged and conceded the fact that the referee made the wrong call?

But at least we got to enjoy the phony smile on Franz Beckenbauer's face as the Italian team was awarded their medals. It's only natural for Beckenbauer to support the German national team (it's his homeland afterall) and I have no qualms about that. However, Beckenbauer is Germany's FIFA representative and the comments he directed toward the Italian national team vis-a-vis the ongoing soccer scandal in Italy was unjustified. Even Blatter did not outwardly attack the Italian team like Beckenbauer.

Maybe the people at FIFA are racist against the Italians just because they won so many World Cup tournaments... and they suspect Materazzi to have made a racist comment? Honestly, though, a headbutt is definitely going to hurt a lot more than someone spitting at you. It's not Totti's fault he wasn't lucky enough to have as much of a stage performance as Zidane did, even though Totti IS better than Zidane in some ways.

Well I think Fifa is currently investigating the situation and I'm sure that Zidane has not escaped this unscathed. As for the "Golden Balls Award" that decision was made by the journalists, Fifa had nothing to do with the decision.

The truth will come out eventually!!! I have a feeling that both players will get heavy fines and suspensions. Neither one will win in this matter!!

It's funny you should compare Zidanes incident with Totti, I heard the same comparison on an Italian station today...Very good point and I'm just curious to see what they're going to do to Materazzi, apparently he's speaking with Fifa tomorrow!! It doesn't surprise me that the Italians always get kicked in the BUTT!!

let's enjoy the victory and let the things be as they are, there's already been enough oil on the fire around here!!
