Warm baths, chamomile tea, and valerian root. Valerian is the natural ingredient in valium, and can work to relieve tension, and thus lessen the cramps. However, consult an herbalist or doctor before you try it (or any herbal remedy) because you can overdose on it. If you're asking because of safety, if you take Ibuprofen (Motrin) on a full stomach, it's probably the safest painkiller there is, and also the best for treating muscle aches and cramps.

Hope that helps.

I used to have cramps like those. the type wherein you just can't get out of bed due to the pain. After trying all sorts of medications and home remedies, and all of them not working, I was at the end of my rope. A friend told me I should try exercising. I tried it and it works. I usually do it a week before and all during my period and since then I haven't had a cramp. I started with just long walks a day and did a little more each week. Yoga helps too.

Yup. The more insulin you produce, the worse your PMS and periods can be. This is because insulin can affect the production of all the other hormones.

For basic information on hyperinsulinemia, check out www.mayoclinic.com and search for hyperinsulinemia. For basic information on what to do about it, check out www.hufa.org and click on the Low Blood Sugar link.

Seriously. Once I started working on my low blood sugar condition, my cramps, PMS, polycystic ovaries, etc. became much easier - and easier to handle.
